I have a background in academia and the arts. Before training as a psychoanalyst, I ran a writing center for graduate students at NYU where I helped students articulate their thoughts and ideas and understand their anxieties around writing. Now, I work with my patients in a similar fashion, through deep listening, helping them express themselves and better understand what may be getting in their way of living the life they want.
I strive to create a safe, supportive therapeutic environment that encourages healing and growth for my clients.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold my Masters degree from Alliance Graduate School of Counseling.
I have clinical experience treating individuals, couples, adolescents, children and families. I have treated various mental health disorders, such as, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, trauma, eating disorders, OCD and PTSD as well as couple and family conflict.
As someone who has undergone her own adversities, I can sincerely say that I know how elusive achieving change and growth can be, but I also know that change is possible. Navigating through the difficulties and stressors that life inevitably brings us can be challenging and difficult to do alone, which is why I am a firm believer that healing begins the moment we feel heard. I have worked in mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric settings and group practice settings, but have found that I excel in private practice where I have the ability to offer one on one, individualized psychotherapy.
Hello, my name is Amanda Johnson, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with several years of nursing experience across medical-surgical, chemical dependency, and psychiatric care settings. My treatment philosophy is rooted in a comprehensive, holistic approach that integrates psychotherapy, medication management, and non-pharmacological interventions tailored to individual patient needs.
Do you have pain from the past or worries about the future that make it difficult to enjoy the present? Are you facing a life transition and are unsure about how to process the changes? As a licensed therapist I can help you work through these concerns and more. Our work together in therapy can translate to your life in multiple ways including facing challenging emotions, improving self-esteem, enhancing relationships, and building communication skills / learning to establish healthy boundaries.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 21 years of experience working with adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, and major life transitions. I specialize in men's mental health — an area I'm deeply passionate about, as many men are taught to push through hardship rather than process it. That said, I work with clients of all genders and backgrounds. My practice is grounded in talk therapy, and I bring a direct yet compassionate style that clients often describe as refreshingly honest.
I conduct therapy sessions in both English and Spanish. I have experience working with individuals facing challenges related to depression and/or anxiety, as well as those with a history of self-harm and suicidal ideation. I also work with clients to heal from sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, intergenerational trauma, and racial trauma.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in somatic psychotherapy, which acknowledges the mind-body connection and the ways stress is held in the body. As a first-generation Mexican, I am deeply passionate about supporting BIPOC individuals and those from immigrant families.
Additionally, I have a strong background in working with individuals who engage in problematic sexual behavior, as well as those seeking to address an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and drugs.
Therapy has the potential to be a transformative experience. I have found people realize the benefit of therapy when they learn how to communicate and advocate for themselves compassionately, practice setting better boundaries, love themselves and others more fully, start to listen to their feelings as teachers and compasses pointing to important lessons, and when they begin to trust themselves as they are, to live authentically and unapologetically. Therapy with me is informed by Social Justice, Allyship, Anti-Racism and is Affirming of all Identities, including, Neurodivergent, Sexual, and Gender.
