Pssst! Hey there! Yes, YOU! The one feeling stressed, exhausted and beyond overwhelmed! Your life may have been in balance before, with time for family, friends, and a successful career, but now everything is chaotic. You are on edge or shut down most of the time. Emotions are all over - anger, panic, tears, even isolation. No matter what you try, nothing seems to work. You just want it all to stop.
I get it, and I'm here to help.
I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner who focuses on providing personalized and evidence-based mental health care. My training and experience include working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, prenatal/postpartum mental health, and cancer-related anxiety and depression. I believe in a warm, collaborative approach that helps clients feel seen and supported. My goal is to help you build confidence, clarity, and long-term stability.

I place equal importance on evidence-based practices and having an excellent therapeutic relationship with my clients. My genuine, caring approach aids in the efficacy of the science-backed treatments used in trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder. I also treat male and female victims of sexual assault.
After listening to you and hearing your story, we design a treatment plan together. I have various approaches and will share with you which treatments will best help you meet your treatment goals, and we’ll determine a direction together. For some clients, an approach with homework keeps them engaged. Others prefer eye movement therapy because trauma is processed quickly, and you don't have to find the right words. Still, others want an inviting and comfortable place to process their feelings in a nonjudgmental environment.
I believe that my clients have wisdom within themselves. Effective therapy avoids advice-giving; it walks beside the client on their journey, allowing them to come to their truth and not the therapist’s truth.
I work with young women, millennials, teen girls, and young couples. I can support you to help build boundaries, work on relationships, learn coping skills to deal with anxiety & stress, talk through life changes & challenges, big decisions, small decisions, or anything else. I focus on family dynamics, generational patterns, and helping you choose the best steps to take moving forward.
I truly believe in the process of healing, growth, and accountability that therapy can provide. Are you looking for a space to learn more about yourself, function better, and find more fulfillment in your life? I would be honored to walk alongside you. I sometimes joke that therapy can work to “retrain your brain,” but there is truth to that statement. Let’s find a way to increase your peace and mindfully create goals to work towards the future you have in mind.
My name is Dr. Juila Carter, and I've been practicing psychology since 2014. In addition to my doctorate degree, I am board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive therapy through the American Board of Professional Psychology. I have been serving our nation's Veteran's by working as a psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 10 years, and continue to do this full time.
Through my work at the VA I've had the privilege of working with Veterans on issues including PTSD, Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and relationship concerns. Working at the VA has also afforded me the opportunity to continue learning cutting edge treatment strategies including trauma focused treatments, stress reduction techniques, and DBT skills.
While my primary job has been working with Veterans, I have worked with a variety of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and presenting issues. I've helped people with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma history, and adjustment concerns, in addition to personality disorders and over controlled coping styles.
In addition to my clinical work, I engage in research on the cause and treatment of personality disorders, and supervise and teach students at the VA and local university.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and kids, and while we are currently pet free, looking forward to getting a dog in the next year. I love being outdoors when it's not the height of TX summer, and enjoy listening to thunderstorms when I get the chance I enjoy reading (Stephen King is my favorite) and watching TV.
